Kauai’s jungle is absent of dangerous creatures. However, hiking on Kauai can be dangerous because nearly all of the trails are slippery. The same rain which blesses our lush island with waterfalls, fruits, flowers, rainbows, and life also creates slick trails. I usually take my guests on the trails that are less slippery and hazardous. On trails that frequently cross rivers such as Makaleha Falls or Weeping Wall, I advise people to wear felt-bottomed shoes.

Nerdy answer: Only the Brahminy blind snake, which is only about 3 inches long, blind, and looks and acts like an earthworm. It is not at all dangerous.

Na Pali coast (northwestern Kauai) is an absolutely breathtakingly rugged coastline of towering sea cliffs , sea caves, dense jungle valleys, and pounding surf. It would be an engineering wonder of the world had humans managed to build and maintain a road down it. Thankfully, they haven’t, and it is a protected state park that can only be enjoyed by foot, boat, or kayak.

Kauai is an extinct volcano. The center of our island is 5,243 feet tall and traps the clouds making it the most consistently rainy spot on Earth (it rains about 355 days per year up there) with 450 inches of rain each year. That crazy amount of rain is not conducive to roads or human civilization. However, it is very conducive to endemic life forms (birds, plants, and insects) found nowhere else on the planet except in the mountainous swampy center of Kauai.
